Access to
electricity is now an afterthought in most parts of the world, so it may come
as a surprise to learn that 16% of the world’s population — an estimated 1.2
billion people — are still living without this basic necessity. Lack of access
to electricity, or “energy poverty”, is the ultimate economic obstacle as it
prevents people from participating in the modern economy.
James Augustine Aloysius Joyce (2 February 1882 - 13 January
1941) was an Irish writer and poet of the modernist movement. He was from
Dublin, Ireland. He is widely considered one of the most significant writers of
the 20th century.
His Irish experiences are essential to his writings, and
provide all of the settings for his fiction and much of their subject matter.
He began a new style of writing which is called stream of consciousness, which
is writing all the thoughts that a character has. His work has influenced many
other writers.
Some books that Joyce wrote are:
Dubliners (1914)
A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man (1916)
Ulysses (1922)
Finnegans Wake (1939)
